SailRail - deals on combined train and ferry travel to Ireland
« on: November 01, 2007, 01:42:56 PM »
I just found out about this scheme, and I had to share it with you all because it is a GREAT deal!  Basically, you buy a train ticket from anywhere in Britain and a ferry ticket to anywhere in Ireland (as a foot passenger), and you pay less than half the price of buying them both separately!  It's even cheaper than most budget flights, and although it takes quite a bit longer, it should involve less hassle and pollution.

Here's the website for more info: http://www.sailrail.co.uk.  There are sample fares on the ferry websites: http://www.irishferries.com/fares/gbr_irl/sail_rail.shtml and http://www.stenaline.co.uk/stena_line/stena_line_uk/holyhead-d_laoghaire/gb/by_rail.html.

One caveat-- I haven't actually travelled this way yet.  Is there anyone else who has tried SailRail and can report on their experience?

Hint Hint Hint!!!

Christine I use to sell alot of these and ppl found them very handy and worth it. Just make sure you book the correct zone and such or you can be stuck with an extra payment at some point along the journey.
