Broadband Router Question

question: i have a BT broadband wireless router.  i want to switch to another provider- Newnet (becuase they don't have min contract).  can I use my BT broadband router with this new service provider?  how does that work?

(ps- the reason i don't want to take out a 12 or 18 month contract is that i eventually want to switch to a TV-Phone Rental-Phone Calls-Broadband contract and our line rental contract doesn't expire until Jan 09)

Changing a router to work with another ISP is relatively simple in itself, just a matter of reconfiguring your user name, password, and a few other things. 

However, if the router you have actually came from BT as part of your package, it may be locked to BT (similar to way that some cellphones are locked to their original company). 

What model of router do you have?

We have a BT wireless router but use Sky as our ISP.

I've set up several BT Voyager routers, but haven't messed around with the Home Hubs at all, I'm afraid, beyond configuring a few on a BT service.

As I understand it, all the BT Home Hub routers are locked to BT originally, but some can be unlocked by flashing with alternate firmware.  There are a lot of different variants, and a lot of problems though, as a quick glance at this thread (all 78 pages of it!) will illustrate:

Unless you feel like spending a lot time with it and are confident with trying to change firmware etc., then it's probably going to be easier to get on eBay and pick up a cheap replacement which will just need basic configuration.
