UK Joint Account Creation-Simple!
« on: November 13, 2007, 05:54:18 PM »
I know people have had issues being added onto their British partner's bank account in the past.  I wanted to let other's know that HSBC made it very easy for us today.

All we needed was my passport and a copy of our marriage certificate in order for me to be added onto my husband's account. All done and dusted in about 10 minutes.
I am the architect of my destiny.

Pretty much the same experience with Halifax with my husband and me.  It took a month for the statements to straighten themselves out and my card to come, but it was pretty easy.

We did use the fact that Mr. Moggs had me on his credit card account with Halifax to support it instead of having to bring in a piece of mail, which is good because when I came, mail wasn't being delivered because of the strike.  So, if a UK spouse has an existing credit card, adding the non-UK spouse ASAP and having a card issued in their name can help avoid the trap where you need some form of ID to get a bank account and a bank account to get proof of address.  We've had a card in my name for years, so this made it a lot easier.
