Pretty much the same experience with Halifax with my husband and me. It took a month for the statements to straighten themselves out and my card to come, but it was pretty easy.
We did use the fact that Mr. Moggs had me on his credit card account with Halifax to support it instead of having to bring in a piece of mail, which is good because when I came, mail wasn't being delivered because of the strike. So, if a UK spouse has an existing credit card, adding the non-UK spouse ASAP and having a card issued in their name can help avoid the trap where you need some form of ID to get a bank account and a bank account to get proof of address. We've had a card in my name for years, so this made it a lot easier.
