Most of the grocery stores should have polenta, which is what you want. I've had luck at health food stores, too.

I make it all the time.  I got mine (called polenta) at Tesco.  The polenta has a slightly smaller grain than the US version, but still works well.  The packaging says there is a larger grain available, but I haven't seen it.

I love you guys! Just tonight I was gonna post how I can't find cornmeal (I got my first cast-iron pan and am aching to try cornbread,) and on a whim do a search for corn bread here and PRESTO! Is there anything you ladies and gents don't know? Better than the oracle of delphi.

I've been able to find coarse cornmeal at the Asian (in the British sense - Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi/etc) grocery stores around here. I can't remember the brand name, but it comes in a bag with a graphic of a kneeling woman on it.

I've bought big bags of white cornmeal in the Asian section at Tesco.  We have a huge one here, and there is a big section in the back which is all imported Indian products and other "ethnic" stuff (they had instant borscht in packets with all the other Polish stuff--no kielbasa yet, though!  :-[ ).  It was a little bit finer than the stuff you get in the Jiffy mix box, but it works just fine.  My DH particularly liked it when I put corn kernels in it.  Mmm, corn bread, chili in a crock pot, and next fall the South Devon Chili Farm will be calling my name...I could almost be in New Mexico!

If you go to Doncaster (don't know how far away it is from you), but there's a pretty good Polish Market store there that sells good Kielbasa!   ;)

If you came to Manchester you would now find Polish food stores in pretty much every neighbourhood!!! Not to mention the fantastic Barbakan Deli!

We have coarse and fine cornmeal in our catch all ethnic foods shops and in our large Tesco (near the ethnic/whole foods sections.)

I'm so going to have to go to our local Tesco-I've always preferred using white cornmeal over yellow.  Thank you for posting this!  :)
