A little help please :) *Dog*
« on: December 08, 2007, 07:40:23 PM »
Hey, I have a little puppy, she is currently in NorCal. She is microchipped, she had her rabies done a while ago, but I havent had the blood sample sent off. I was wondering where do we send the sample in NorCal(or anywhere) to make sure it meets the right levels. Also, does anyone know how I book a flight with whichever carrier from San Francisco airport and the general price for 1 adult + dog (she is only small)

Thanks

http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/factsheet/eufactsheet4a.pdf

The Defra website above is a place to start.  It takes six months from the date that the blood sample is drawn to get the PETS passport.  The shipping of the dog generally goes by the weight of the dog.  The size of the crate you ship your puppy in should be one size larger than normal.  Many people have found flying Virgin Atlantic and Continental to be the best routes, but make sure they are approved routes before booking by checking the website.  I am not sure how long the rabies done awhile ago is, but my vet who did mine suggested two to three weeks for the levels to be low enough.  You will also need a health certificate to ship your dog, generally done 24-48 hours before flying when they get their tick and tapeworm treatment.  If you have any other questions feel free to pm.
