I have the Belgian ones from Costco. They make perfectly good cookies. But I have to say, these is a distinctive taste about the Nestle ones. I can tell when they aren't used and sometimes I need that Nestle taste! ;) It's not like you can't get other brands of chips in the US though. I'd say the same thing over there, too! :P :D

I agree completely.

I bake a lot here.

And the one thing I miss are the chocolate chips.  Not juts Nestle, but butterscotch ones, different strengths of chocolate, etc.

I've tried all manner of British and Euro ones, and they all suck compared to US ones.

OMG Toll House chocolate chips are my favorite. When I was in the states in Sept I bought a Costco size bag (I think it was 4 lbs) and my parents are coming over in 5 weeks and methinks mother shall be bringing me another...along with Bakers Coconut, more Dunkin Donuts coffee...the list is endless!

my folks will be here in about 3 weeks, and they're bringing so much stuff, they had to ship some boxes ahead in order to not exceed their luggage weight limit.

Yeah, I used to bake with them all the time in the US.  And as someone else mentioned, all the other types and flavored ones as well.  I used to end up eating as many as I would bake with, yum!

This is one of only a few food items that I bother bringing back over (or have brought over from visitors) from the US. For pretty much everything else I've found a good substitute, or have long forgotten, but for cookies, I really do like having Nestle chocolate chips.

SO true...I was thinking about this just yesterday. I wanted to make some choc chip cookies and looked in the pantry and saw that teeeeeeeny tiny bag of little choc chips and I thought, "What's the point?" lol

Thanks for yours posts, everyone.  I thought for sure these might be easier to find there.  And like some of you have said, there's just something different about Nestle's chocolate chips.  So these can be shipped to the UK at least, right?

Why?  ???   ;)
We're a foreign country!

KD, you need to come over for a visit, so you can see for yourself!  I'm sure that at least one other person would agree with me!  ;D

I know it's a foreign country!! LOL...but there are so many things over there that I have been surprised to know were there, that's why I thought these might be easier to find.  [smiley=doh.gif]

And I will be coming over for a visit soon.   :)

I just discoverd "Chunks Bournville" by Cadbury.  They are dark chocolate chunks, about the size of a chocolate chip, and I swear they taste just like a Nestle Semi Sweet chip.  I got them at Sainsbury's in Kingston.  They come in a red pouch and are 180g.  I don't remember how much they were, but I don't think they were much more than a £1.  I used the toll house recipe and they were great.

These are about the only thing I found that make a halfway decent substitute.  I make a lot of fudge and if I run out of my supply of Nestle's chips these can be used. For some reason though, the fudge ends up being just a little bit softer but the girls at work all depend on me for their peanut butter and chocolate fudge!! I do recommend giving them a try!
