It is illegal to even own a pit bull in Miami-Dade County.  Any pitbulls seized there will be euthanized.
If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter what road you take.

you CANNOT bring a pit to England or it will be destroyed immediatly my UK hub says

Okay, this is utterly ridiculous.  I know pitbulls that were attacked by golden retrievers!  I was planning on bringing my pitbull mix to the UK as soon as the house is purchased.  But if there is even a chance that she will get seized and destroyed its making me think twice.  It is killing me not having her here with me.  I am still waiting to hear back from someone at Defra about this.

If anyone has experience bringing over one of these 4 banned mutts that were mixed, please share.

Thanks.

What is sad is the killing of the dogs. I don't see in to be needed if the owner is able to ship the dog back to someone they trust.

That said, I am suprised the Peki is banned. I have no advise, but good luck londonitis.  :)

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.

It's a bit confusing because, as Grant posted earlier, they identify dangerous dogs by "type" rather than by breed:

It is important to note that, in the UK, dangerous dogs are classified by “type”, not by breed label. This means that whether a dog is considered dangerous, and therefore prohibited, will depend on a judgment about its physical characteristics, and whether they match the description of a prohibited 'type'. This assessment of the physical characteristics is made by a court. A leaflet providing guidance on the physical characteristics that a court would consider in reaching its judgement can be found below.

The leaflet they mention is on this page: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/welfare/domestic/dogs.htm  (my computer is acting up and won't open pdfs for some reason, so I couldn't read it).

If I were you, I'd be very open and honest with your airline and on your PETS documentation. If your dog doesn't fit the "dangerous type" model, then you might be OK. But I wouldn't just wing it and try and sneak him into the country. Have you spoken to your dog's vet about it yet? Since more and more peope are bringing animals to the UK, he/she may have some advice or insight for you. If not, then I'd provide a copy of the Defra leaflet to the vet and let him/her get involved and take it from there -- particularly if he/she does not believe your dog is dangerous (having a certified vet as an advocate can't hurt).

I hope I'm not being a total thread necromancer here...I know this is an old thread, but I am wondering if anybody has any insight for me on my situation--I figured it was better to post in an existing thread than start a totally new one.

I have a Lab X who's going on 7 years old.  The "X" has been guessed as boxer and as pit bull.  I got her as a stray and no vet has ever told me that she is definitely a mix of lab/pit or lab/boxer or lab/anything else.  She's down on all her paperwork as a lab mix, but she is short and stocky.  I've been planning for my move to bring her with me, but I'm wondering if I might have problems bringing her with me and if it might be better to let her live out the rest of her days as a spoiled grand dog.  I just really can't imagine not having her, and don't want to do just dump her on my folks (they're happy to take her but I think we'd both pine for each other for the rest of our days.)  At the same time, I don't want to subject my aging girl to all the stress of an international flight only to have to send her back or worse.  Has anybody brought a dog like this in or had any experience with trying or have any advice?  I can't figure out if she matches the "type" of dog they are talking about or not.

I really hate that people (or those in "authority" positions) classify certain dogs this way.  I can't believe the article jennredd stated!!! This is a holocaust on a K-9 level!  When will people realize it's not necessarily the breed but how it is raised and treated?  My grandpa has a pure bred pitbull and she is the sweetest thing ever.  She looks terrifying but hardly even barks.  She just wants love and attention.  It makes me wonder what will happen to the, shall we say, circle of life(?) by slowly trying to eliminate certain breeds and dog types.
