Property Search
« on: November 27, 2007, 04:38:01 PM »
In the jobs section of the board, there is a thread dedicated to job search engines, but I could not find one here for houses or flats.

I'm looking for a descent search engine to find a fair amount of flats in the South East.  Can anyone suggest any?

Probably not really helpful to you, but for anyone else looking in the London area: I love www.Foxtons.co.uk.
They list the rent per month (rather than just per week) and the square footage in feet. (I can't wrap my head around square meters yet)

From my relocation agent and other people on here I've heard to use Foxton's for getting info for listings (as they have excellent details and websites) but to avoid them for the actual business if at all possible. I've heard tell of many crooked dealings, including threats to my estate agents. Of course that could be a limited number of people in a limited number of offices but I've heard it enough to form a generalization in my head.

In my own personal experience they seem like they want to get as many people working for them as possible to move as many properties as possible but don't care as much about the quality of said people? My experience is just with one particular office though.

I'd love to hear any good reports about the company if anyone has them though :) (other than the info for properties)

AMEN.  My fiancĂ© is an estate agent and HATES Foxtons with a burning passion.  They've been flagged on BBC Watchdog, though I can't remember the specifics they were done in for (you could probably Google it).  Point is, use their free services like a website, etc., but don't actually use them to rent/buy property, like others have been saying.

Rightmove.co.uk and
Findaproperty.com are both websites that his business uses to upload their stock.  If you want non-agency, try Gumtree.com for private landlords.

PLEASE can we be aware of the laws of libel, people!

I strongly recommend a wee bit of self editing on this thread!

I don't think I've said anything libelous (sp). I've said I've heard and I think... not they ARE. And, I have heard and do think those things, opinions being legal and all... But then again, I haven't read the law. Can you say which part is bad and needs editing (or were you talking about aless's post)?

I agree with Julia. And also with Aless (not just because she is my fiance!)  :P
They have actually been exposed in a semi-recent tv show as de-frauding their clients and forging signatures. It actually happened, I mean I'm sure that they have put measures in place to prevent this happening again but at the end of the day I have my own (burning hatred) feelings about them. *omitted opinions*

Vicky

I don't think anyone has said anything here that isn't already in the public domain, and Julia has worded her posts carefully.  I'll let you know if I spot anything that looks like it could lead to a defamation suit.

Thank you.
