I think a lot of this is due to staff not being trained properly, and taking the "safest" option - the least likely to get them into trouble if they make a mistake, rather than doing what would make the most sense if they understood their jobs better.

Or management assuming that their staff are stupid (or possibly hiring less qualified people so they can pay them less) and making them follow the "safest" option, rather than risk them making a mistake.

I was cleared of the terrorist charges yesterday. I called up and they were able to remove the hold on the account. It was remarkably easy, but it seemed like they had everything noted from my calls over the weekend.

eek.  I remember reading an article about something similar happening to someone else- I think it was because they had paid off their credit cards all at once.  After that and this story, I think I'll pay my credit card off in 2 or 3 monthly payments rather than all at once (I have the money but haven't applied it to the card yet) since I certainly don't want anything flagged up on my card!  Sheesh.
Now a triple citizen!
