I'm trying to think of an airport I've used where I've never had a bad experience.
Geneva Switzerland?
Or Bristol, UK?
I'm thinking you're more likely to like an airport if it's your destination, rather than your layover (although there's always immigration) For instance, I've always hated O'Hare because I end up changing airlines there and running 30-40 miles from one terminal to the next while about to miss my connection. One time I flew out of O'Hare without a connection though, and it was fine.
I hated Denver because for a few years it was my connecting airport and there seemed to be weather problems every single time. I'm not saying that's the airport's fault, but it's no fun getting stuck halfway somewhere. I've been snowed into the St. Louis airport for 12 hours with a toddler. At Detroit for some reason flights always seem to be cancelled.
Atlanta is mostly OK except for that dumb thing when you arrive internationally and have to retrieve your luggage for immigration and then put it back through baggage handling again. Then again, Atlanta has been a destination airport for me and not a connecting airport.
I've never had any trouble with the Des Moines Iowa airport, but I don't think it's a connection to anywhere.
