Anything to do around Paddington Station or other suggestions?
« on: December 29, 2007, 01:51:51 PM »
Hi- I have a long, long, layover between flights at Heathrow and I was gonna take the London Express train over to Paddington Station and walk around a bit.  I did this before on another layover, taking the tube, getting off somewhere and exploring a different part of the city, but I ended up somewhere not too interesting.  Any suggestions? Thanks

There is not an awful lot to see in that area. You could walk down Edgeware road and look at the Middle Eastern cafes and shops and that's about it. How long will you have? You might have a better time if you got on the Piccadilly line to South Ken and had a look round the museums.

Lots of good shops inside Paddington Station, and a pub!

I definitely wouldn't stick around Paddington for that long, you'll be bored silly.  Do you want to do shopping type stuff or sightseeing?

I was just there last night. There isn't enough shopping in Paddington for 9 hours.  La Senza, Krispy Kreme, Starbucks and a Sainsburys! (I hit all..)

Jump on the tube and go a few stops to Oxford Circus and hit the sales.  Or Hyde Park and have a mosey around there.

Shopping, sightseeing, whatever- is all good by me!  So looks like maybe I'll just take the tube somewhere interesting, at least for a few hours.  Thanks all!

9 hours between flights, but dont forget to allow time for travel and checking in an hour or more in advance!

Oh yeah, I am obsessive about making sure that I am okay with the flights!  So I will give myself plenty of time.

So actually even though there are 9 hours between flights, I still have to get through customs and then out and about, and then back to make sure I can make the next flight.   So I really only have about 5 hours out!

Buy a zone 1-6 Travelcard for £6.70 and that will get you to and from the airport and central London. Not only is it cheaper but your sightseeing options are better.

I like the Westminster tube stop I want a fast tour of London or Covent Garden for some shopping. It's walkable too.
