In terms of Broadband, I'm doing my homework right now.
We currently have BT and are happy with them, but thought I'd look around since we're in the process of a move.
1)Bulldog offers a 2 Mb line at a very reasonable price. They have AllTime (same speed 24 hours a day) and PrimeTime (High speeds at off-peak times (evenings and weekends) and average speeds durring the day.) Had they offered PrimeTime in our area we absolutely would have gone with their 2 Mb Primetime as it's much cheaper than a 1 Mb BT line.
That being said, they have a hefty connection charge (on their AllTime 1 Mb (the best pkg in my area)) that they're not willing to waive... there is no trial period... and if you move within the 1st year, you have to pay something like £120 to move your service. (Outside the first year, you pay £50+).
I called them today and here was our conversation,
"I've called BT and NTL and they don't have the hefty connection charge. Do you ever have specials on that?"
"No."
"Ok, then I think we're going to go with one of them"
"Okay"
-click- Nice.....
2)ntl: has service that's very comperable to BT. It's cheaper at £34.99 and still offers the free install, free transfers, etc. Plus, if you say, "Can you waive the ____ fee" they're willing to haggle... and I want a company that will fight for me! Unfortunately ntl: doesn't service my area, so it wasn't even a choice for me.
3)BT is more expensive. Their 1 Mb line is £39 (Bulldog was £33) but it has free installation, free to transfer, known company, and as of when we got installed the first time, a 30 day trial period after install.
------------------
I'd be willing to try Bulldog if we could get the 2 Mb line, but since we can't, I'd rather go with the company I know and trust. The extra bit monthly is offset by the free install, transfers etc. and I have had no reason to abandon BT.
Hope that helps!!
<edit>
About the wifi thing, I'm 99.9% sure you have to purchase your own wifi equipment with any of these three. I know we had to for BT, I know ntl: doesn't provide it and I'm willing to bet Bulldog doesn't either. Most will provide you with a standard broadband modem, though.
