Disabling Skybox standby light
« on: January 05, 2008, 07:26:07 PM »
We have a lovely new Skybox in our bedroom that has a glaring blue light on it that is always on. Does anyone know any way to disable it without damaging anything?
Thanks!

Can you just unplug it? My DVD player in the bedroom also has the bright blue light. I just put the remote control in front to block the light.   It's too inconvenient to unplug as the plug reaches behind the dresser.

Duh... I guess I could just put some electrical tape over it.  :P

I just hate all of these standby lights on everything. They are pointless and take up loads of energy!

What would I do without you, Pebs!

Hmmm...

Our only has one light, the green one, which goes red at night.  Have you got another one as well?

You could go inside the box and disconnect the LED, but obviously that would void the warranty on a new unit and it's not to be recommended if you're not used to working on such equipment.   Depending upon the internal design, you might be able to just remove the cover and stick some black tape on the inside though, between the LED and the front panel.

Individually, they take very little.  A typical LED standby light might consume about 20mW  (that's 0.02 watt).

On the Sky+ box there is just a red and green one, but on the regular sky box there is also a blue one.

BTW... Thanks, Vicky!!  ;)

Ah, you have a sky box too...no idea then, I'm afraid.

Glad your magic box of telly is up and running.  My M&S vouchers should be here soon, so thank you too!
