C-sec date now set! UPDATE
« on: January 02, 2008, 02:41:31 PM »
I saw my consultant today and he has booked me in for a planned c-sec. My due date is 30 March but the c-sec will be on 25 March. I'm a little stressed about this as I went 10 days early with my first baby and I am worried that I will go into labor before my appointed date. I'm having a planned section because of the complications I had with my first birth.

The idea is supposed to be to avoid an emergency c-sec with this one, so fingers crossed I don't go into labor early - I will be an utter basket case if I do.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I did with Emily. She was due the 30th January and we were planning the c-sec for around the 24th. I went into labour with her on the 3rd January. It wasn't that bad though...other than the fact that her daddy wasn't there...still in the UK and us in US. But they watched me for a couple of hours to make sure it really was labour. Monitored her heartbeat. Then they made the decision to do the c-sec. The trauma for us was that at 36 weeks it was possible that her lungs weren't mature yet. And of course that Paul missed the whole birth. Although looking at pictures taken right after my c-sec I am not so sure that was a bad thing...I looked like he!!. Even if you go into labour, it usually isn't quite the same urgency as an emergency c-sec.

Congratulations!  March 25 will be here in no time!  But it may not feel that way...  :)

No, it doesn't! It feels ages already. Mostly because I'm already feeling like a hippo and not sleeping well!

I went into labour the day before my scheduled C/S with Jack! This gives you an idea how difficult a child he has been thus far. Everything has to be his way or else!  :D

Oy. We are so lucky with Sammy that I'm terrified this kiddo will be a serious handful!

My consultant made a mistake! He's now changed my date to 18 March which has me at just over 38 weeks. I feel a bit better because even though I know I will get a c-sec, things went tits up from the minute I got to the hospital with my first baby (it took 2 midwives just to figure out how dilated I was, they had a hard time getting the baby's heart rate, they couldn't get a canula in me, etc etc). So I'm just praying this one isn't going to make an even earlier appearance!

At least it wasn't '06.   ;)

You're sick of hearing it, but try not to panic.  Have you talked to your Midwife about what to expect if you go into labour early with the planned Cesarean?

Not in detail, but I'm told that I will get a c-sec regardless. It's just a question, I guess, of how long they take to determine that I am really in labor, how early in the pregnancy it is, etc.

If I do go into labor, I'm worried about pain because for me, neither the TENS nor gas/air worked at all... and even though I was only 3-1/2 cm, I was having contractions every minute.
