Applying for provisional license - no one to sign photo??
« on: January 04, 2008, 08:28:43 PM »
Hey all - I'm applying for my provisional license and it says if I don't have "a full valid current UK or EC/EEA passport or a Home Office issued travel document", I need to have my photograph signed by a UK resident other than a relative who has known me for over 2 years. First of all, what is a "Home Office issued travel document"? - does my UK Visa count for this? Also, if I don't know anyone to sign my photo, is there another way to get this done without going to my local office (as there isn't an office local to me, and I have no way to get to a far away office!)

I just went through the same thing.  I had my husband's manager/friend signed mine but you can also ask your doctor's office.  My driving instructor said he could have signed mine as well.  Some places might charge you a small fee (like the doctors) but don't worry, you can find someone to sign it without having to go to the office.

If you have children in school the headmaster can sign them also, and passport pics.
If you know your phamasist thats another good one.
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

When my husband got his he had to get it signed at the DVLA office itself as they didn't accept that anyone else who signed it would have known him a full 2 years.

I'm assuming you've been living here less than two years -- if that's the case, the easiest thing to do would be to have the DVLA office sign your photo.  If you've been here more than two years they won't sign it for you and if you've been here less than two years and have someone other than the DVLA sign it, there's a chance they won't accept it, as was the case for hatsumomo's husband.

I think I'd lived here about 2.5 years when I went for my provisional license and I hadn't known anyone on the acceptable list for two years (didn't work for nearly the entire first year here and hadn't made much of an effort to get to know anyone), so I went to the DVLA office and they refused to sign it as I'd been here longer than 2 years at that point.  In the end, I had to get a GP from my surgery sign it (and he hadn't really known me two years as I pretty much saw a different GP on each visit  ::)).

Yes, the DVLA office signed it themselves for me as well but after they signed it they had to send it off then and there (I couldn't take the photo home with me and post it later on).  So, if you go there to have your photo signed... be prepared to submit your application and supporting documents and pay then and there....
