I am going to try to take a business trip to Bremen in Feb and  vacation to Morocco every summer.  [smiley=juggle.gif]
Last year, I drove to morocco from Birmingham, it was very easy in the beginning but the return was very painful.

Lunch in London... Breakfast in Berlin  There's no need to fly from the UK to Europe.

I would really recommend Berlin by train - I had to go by plane last time (colleague booked the tickets for me) and it was an absolute nightmare in every way.

Yes, seat61 are great. We're going to visit some relatives in Dublin and we're really looking forward to the train + ferry option (having done similar to The Netherlands a bunch last year). Sure, it takes longer, but it's the same price as flying (£60 return each) and it's just SO much less stressful!
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

I don't recommend the trains in Egypt.  ;)

I don't recommend the trains in Egypt.  ;)

I agree on the local trains, but the overnight sleeper train from Cairo to Luxor/Aswan was just as good as any continental Europe sleeper train I've been on.  And of course, because it's Egypt, it was incredibly cheap!  We paid $55 return.

I agree!! It was very posh, but at the time I was comparing it to Kenyan trains (or train should I say since there was one a day that crossed the country... maybe... if the wind was blowing in the right direction.)  ;)

Are you kidding? I've done the same train journey - during the day though so not on a sleeper,  and it was pretty horrendous. 15 hours with a grubby toilet and no loo paper and people trying to kick us out of our seats, telling us they were only for Egyptians.  :o And this was first class! I would definitely NOT call it luxurious. The seats reclined about 30 degrees. That was about 7 years ago though, maybe things have changed since then. Also I seem to remember some hassle buying train tickets if you were not a local .. someone from our hotel got them for us in the end if I'm remembering correctly.

That was similar to our experience on the non-sleeper train as well from Luxor to Aswan, but the sleeper train was a completely different experience.  Each cabin had individual heat/air conditioning controls.  We got served dinner and breakfast (and the food was quite good).  There were two bathrooms for every 5 cabins and an attendant that served only our five cabins.  Like Olive said, it was very posh!

Oh in terms of whether or not things have changed, we just traveled last year (Dec 06/Jan 07) so our experience was quite recent.

I went 4 years ago and it was like that on the overnight sleeper. Way cool. Service and food were good and ta da you wake up and you are at your destination.  ;D
