Go to Sainsburys or Lidl. (if you're in this country? your name says NY) I'm surprised at Tescos as they seem to be the most diverse in different foreign type food.. but there you go.

Nono, the rye bread in Lidl is VERY DIFFERENT than the rye bread I'm used to in the State.  When I think of rye, I think of Jewish rye or pumpernickel - the type of German rye Lidl (and Sainsbury's & Tesco) sell is very moist and heavy and not all like the sliced sandwich loaf I can buy in grocery store in the US.

If anyone can find proper Jewish rye or pumpernickel in this country, TELL ME WHERE.  I'm desperate.  I ate so much pumpernickel when we were on holiday in the Dominican Republic last month because I miss it over here!!  (disclaimer: have yet to try Jewish bakeries up in Golder's Green/Stock Newington)

I'm afraid that you will have to bake your own bread if you want exactly US style Rye.   I hadn't found it there, but made do with what I did find.  Lidl sells Rye bread mixes that you just bung in a bread maker and they are a much stronger more USA like type Rye bread.  I just can't remember which one it was.

StephanieLea most quick oats are oats that have been processed and "rolled" or smooshed and then chopped up really finely and sometimes precooked (for the instant stuff).  Steel cut are actually a bit chewier/nuttier flavor because the oat is left more intact and simply cut in two.  They are higher in fiber a nutrients.

Wiki gives a more concise answer: "Steel-cut oats are whole grain groats (the inner portion of the oat kernel) which have been cut into only two or three pieces. They are golden in colour and resemble small rice pieces."

Steel-cut oats are also known as coarse-cut oats, pinhead oats, Scotch oats, or Irish oats."

To the OP, you won't find the same variety and huge multitude of things in the UK as in the USA.  So if there are some really can't live without foods you must have you will have to either pay through the nose for them or ship huge amounts of them.  Hopefully you will find reasonable substitutes or things you like just as well.  :)

I have seen rye bread at Tesco but I don't think they have it all the time. The last time I bought rye bread was from a local bakery.

I haven't looked lately but Holland and Barrett used to have  pumpernickel.
