Wedding hair
« on: January 30, 2008, 11:16:14 AM »
Agh!  I'm getting married in Gretna Green in June, but I want to do a 'trial run' of hair styles down here in London beforehand.  That way I can photos of the style, take them to the stylist up there, and be able to get what I want.

I'm trying to find a salon to get this done.  Everywhere I look seems exceedingly posh & expensive.  I don't need free champagne cocktails or celebrity customer lists - just a good, solid place that will do me a cheap up-do that can be replicated later.  How hard is this to find?  Any recommendations?  A lot of the 'normal' salons only do cuts, and I really don't want to spend a fortune on a hairstyle that's just going to get taken down 5 minutes later!

Hmm...

Not near you so I can't reccommend a particular salon.. but I got mine done for £20 at the probably most in-expensive hairdresser in town and it came out FAB.  The girls were really nice and I had 4 people curling and pinning and fussing over me. Now I go back there everytime i need a cut and color.   :)  Am actually going on sunday for a cut and color because they do 1/2 price highlights on sundays  ;D

If I were you, I would call around for prices.. and don't write off any that are really inexpensive.... because it could just be a diamond in the rough

I just went to a regular hairdresser and I think I also paid only about £20. I remember she told me not to wash my hair that day and she used about a can of hairspray!!
I would just look in the phone book and start making phone calls.

What part of London are you in and how far are you willing to travel?

Anything in central London is going to be more expensive, but you may find if you travel out to more residential areas in Zones 3/4/5 you could probably get something cheaper.

The place I go to in East Finchley is a nice "normal" salon.  Not overly posh, but not catering to the old blue hairs (if you know what I mean....).

It's called TD Hair Designers and I think the woman who has cut my hair, could probably do up-dos.  Her name is Tanya.

T D Hair Designers
170a, High Rd, London, N2 9AS
Tel: 020 8883 5777

It's only about a 5-10 minute walk from East Finchley tube station.  I think a cut is £25-30, so fairly reasonable.  Good luck!

I was primarily looking on the internet and not coming up with anything under £50 :p.  Think I need to phone instead - should be a lot more fruitful!  Either that or walk around some high streets near me.

Thanks all.  I was just being lazy, really :).
