Heating not working
« on: February 29, 2008, 10:43:08 AM »
Probably more of a vent than a question, but the heating in my house isn't working, again.  I think there is something up with the controller.  I have the heat on a timer- so it would turn on at 6:30 am and off at 8:30 am, and then turn on at 5:00 pm and shutoff at 11:30.  Every few days, it would stop working, and I would reset the controller where it would turn on and stay working for a few days, and then would shut down again.  But now, it turns on for only 30 seconds or so and shuts down.  I am getting a blinking light on the LED that shows a power cord.  I have been playing around with the electrical settings and tried to reset the entire thing from the mains, but its stilll acting up.  It could be a fuse issue, but I'm not entirely sure...   From what I gather, that controller is only 1 year old, which was replaced from the previous controller- mind you this house was only built in 2005! At this point, its beyond my expertise, so I need some professional help. I've emailed my landlord, he hasn't gotten back to me yet.   Its cold in my house!

Oh no! And it is COLD in Inverness at the moment! Can you phone your landlord in case he doesn't check his emails very often? It's supposed to be even colder over the weekend, there's snow forecast!

I know, I was worried about the snow forecast! Luckily, the landlord did just get back to me.  He's gonna drop by later and check it out.  Hopefully he knows how to fix it (he is some sort of civil engineer/building engineer)- if not, I am not sure if someone will be able to get in to look at it before the weekend.  Looks like it will be lots of jumpers, slippers, and hot tea for me!

Sounds like the PCB needs replacing.

If he can't fix it, ask him to get you/lend you an electric heater in the meantime.

I know its a rented property but british gas do a good cover for boilers and they cover everything once you join maybe you could mention this to your landlord and then all you need do is call them they come out asap withing a couple of hours and if they can fix it straight away, or they order the part and its done next day or so.

They have been a god send for us with the boiler we have it plays up, but since they fixed it the last time its good now.

Indy
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

Thanks everyone. Well my landlord came by yesterday and was able to play around with it and fix it, although I am not entirely convinced that it will stay working.  At least I'm warm for now.

Is this a regular gas or oil-fired hydronic system?

The problem is that there are a lot of different configurations, and without being there to see exactly what type of boiler it is and how it is wired and plumbed, it's hard to suggest more than very general things.

Hi Paul,
Its a wall hung gas fired system boiler.  I figured it would be too complicated to get into on this forum, thats why it was more of a vent, rather than a "Help!" post.
