Glasgow Pet Food Store and good website for general info
« on: February 01, 2008, 03:33:30 PM »
Hello UKY!

We're off to Glasgow on Thursday to do our homework and I would love to know if anyone has any recommendations on pet food stores.

We feed our cats Innova by Naturapet and use Tidy Cat regular clay litter.

http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/product_detail.asp?pf%5Fid=3011205&dept%5Fid=5&brand%5Fid=9&Page=

I'm hoping we can find similar food for them as a couple of them have sensitive bellies and need good food.

Also, anyone have a local city website for Glasgow they can recommend. Something similar to citysearch.com in the states? A site that will give you anything and everything Glasgow.

Thanks for any info you can offer.
I made it!!

I don't know anything about what's in Glasgow, but Pets at Home has a pretty good selection of specialty foods. I checked there website and they have a few stores in Glasgow.

I was able to get the same Royal Canin dog food for Poppy there. I haven't needed to get special food for the cats, as the one food they like the best is Whiskas.

The selection of cat litter isn't quite as good as in the US, I think. Catsan is a good quality brand, but I've noticed it isn't all that much better than the cheap stuff.

We learned the hard way that the 'pink' litter is a no-no in our house. Adam got some by mistake and it dyed Thumpers white paws a dingy pinkish brown for a few weeks.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.

One thing I've noticed is that there must be a difference in what's legally required as far as disclosing pet food ingredients. In the US, if I want to know the ingredients for a brand, I just look it up online. But I've been looking for UK brands & a lot of them don't list the ingredients (or not all of them), which is really distressing to me, as I don't like feeding my cats crap, & also, lots of cats (including mine) have food sensitivities/allergies.

I also feel like there isn't as much of a range of quality, grain-free WET food (I don't feed dry food) as there is in the US, sigh.

I order a lot of cat food from PetFoodDirect.com--they have the better quality brands that I like--but I haven't been able to locate a similar-type website for the UK that has a wide range of healthier/organic/etc. brands. Anyone find one?

Oh, & re: litter--I don't like clay litter, because it's strip-mined (@ least in the US it is) & there are potential inhalation issues. I'm glad that the UK sells World's Best Cat Litter (it's made from corn)--it's one of the brands here that I like.

Ask your vet. Mine gave me a print-out of catfood ingredients!  :)

Oooh, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! It's just frustrating that it's not as simple as looking online (I dunno about what's actually listed on the cans themselves, as I'm still in the US). I am nervous enough about getting the cats safely over there; then I have to worry about finding food that I (& they!) approve of too!
