Super Bowl -- big Giants fan from NY

My family and I moved to Barnstaple in North Devon in August and well, there aren't a lot of American football fans here.
I am a rabid Giants fan psyched as hell that my team is in the Super Bowl against all odds and I'm looking for some sort of Super Bowl soiree within a few hours of here-- maybe some other fans of Big Blue?  Maybe in a pub somewhere?
I know the game starts at 11:30 p.m. here, but well, this is the Super Bowl and I think Giants fans will understand.

Hey!

We're going to the Sports Cafe in Piccadilly Circus.  They are open until 4am I think that night.  There were also some other parties going on in London.  Not sure about out in Devon, but you can definitely get your fix in London.

Hope that helps at least a little!

Ahh, you're a marvel, Vicky. Answering my question before I even asked it.

In the past when I've gone with a group of people to the Sports Cafe we've called ahead to be put on a "list".  This meant we got in for free and could cut the line outside.

Not sure they'll let you do this on Superbowl Sunday.

Super Bash information

Super Bash V – the official Super Bowl party of the NFL in the UK – will take place this year at the Battersea Evolution on Sunday February 3rd. This will be the fifth year of the popular event that celebrates the Super Bowl.

The venue is a large scale structure built in Battersea Park, London that can hold Super Bash V’s expanded audience. Approximately 4,000 people are expected to attend the event – the majority of whom will be nfluk.com registered members.

Super Bash V will be hosted once again by Trevor Nelson – the BBC Radio One DJ, 1xtra Breakfast radio show host and MTV presenter.  Nelson will be presenting the entertainment at Battersea Evolution before the main event – a live screening of Super Bowl XLII live and direct from Arizona.

Stadium-style seating will again be installed in Battersea Evolution for fans so that they can watch the Sky’s high-definition coverage of the game on the three giant screens in comfort.

Entertainment at the event will be provided by indie rock band Reverend & The Makers, known for their recent singles, “Heavyweight Champion of the World,” “He Said He Loved Me” and “Open Your Window”. Also returning to Super Bash will be The Cuban Brothers, who have been responsible for getting the party started at four previous super Bash events.

New Orleans Saints cheerleaders will also be in attendance on the night, spending time in the crowd meeting and greeting NFL fans in the UK, as well as performing for the fans before the game kicks off.

For video game enthusiasts, Super Bash will also be hosting an EA Sports HD lounge which will provide computer pods open for fans to play Madden NFL ’08 on XBOX 360.

The party will also be a celebration of the recent announcement that the UK will once again act as a host for an NFL regular-season game during the 2008 season. The teams, date and venue for the game will be announced on Friday February 1st, so by the time Super Bash V kicks off, fans in the UK will know exactly who they will be seeing in action on these shores later in the year.

nfluk.com will be running a bus service from Victoria station in London to take fans directly to the venue, so they will be able to decide whether to make their own way there or catch the Super Bash Express to and from the party. To take advantage of this service, go to Hudson’s Place, which is just off Wilton Road next to Victoria Station, where you will be greeted by our Super Bash Express coach personnel and wait for one of six buses which will be taking people to and from the venue throughout the night. The buses will be running back to Victoria throughout the evening, with the last bus departing from Battersea Evolution to Victoria at 4:30am.

If you choose to make your own way to Super Bash V, there are several different methods of public transport that can get you to the venue. Use www.tfl.gov.uk for exact times from your point of departure in London.

Sportscafe is sold out and has been for at least a week.

Superbash has no tickets left whatsoever. Your best bet at the moment is probably Cheers.

Wow!  What a game!  I am a TOTAL convert now.  I nearly caved in with 10 minutes on the clock, really tired, and convinced that the Pats had pulled it off, then one long throw from that boy Manning woke me up like a bolt, and the rest is history....

Hiya Sports Fans & Vicky!

I couldn't actually watch the game, had to rely on web updates on Yahoo sports!

I've supported the Giants since 1987 when I first got into American football - it used to be shown sunday evenings I think at around 10pm and I'll always remember the channel Four logo with a helmet on and breathing as if all tough just before the opening credits!

The opening credits ! ah, they used Frankie Goes To Hollywood and 'Two tribes' as the theme - fantastic!

Those days I think belonged to the 49er's, and bubbling under were the Giants, Redskins and the Bronco's, the Dolphins were 'good' too!

I find the game is a little too much stop/start and thats why it drags on for 3-4 hours, but I bet being at a live game would be awesome, espeically the Superbowl! 

One day, I'll make it to one!

Pity about the Patriots coach being a sore loser, but go Giants!!!!

Imagine how much slower the game is if you don't have replays, commentary, or commercials to fill dead time;  that's what it's like live.  So if it's too slow for you on TV then it will be even more painful in person!

However, there's obviously the perks of loads of fans, beer, and cheerleaders (sorry ladies!).

I loved the fact that they showed the game commercial-free here. I got to see so much more of it than I usually do in the U.S. Overall, I'm impressed by the coverage. The commentators were pants, but they are pants everywhere in the world and they absolutely positively need to show the down and yardage on every play for the next year's broadcast. I go away for a minute and come back and a play just completed or they are setting up for a new one and I have no clue what it is, only who has possession.

Agreed.  I was dumbfounded when one announcer said the Giants should play conservatively for field position when they were losing with 9 minutes left in the game.  What?  A few plays later the Giants went for a big pass and gained like 30-40 yards, exactly what they needed to do.

I'll give the announcers credit though, they did catch it when Giant Michael Strahan took a shot at Terry Bradshaw.  When Terry presented the trophy and asked Strahan a question, Strahan took a shot at Bradshaw. 

Strahan:  "You know what? We watch a lot of TV. We have a lot of free time, I remember somebody saying that the Giants have a false sense of confidence from the first time we played them. No! We've got confidence!

It was Terry who said they had the false sense of confidence.  Ouch.  In your face Terry.  Good one Strahan!
