How long?
« on: July 09, 2008, 02:28:26 AM »
How long does one generally have to wait between finding a house or flat that they want to rent and actually moving in?  I'm trying to get a general idea of how long we'll be imposing on my poor brother-in-law, haha.  And how long did it take you to find somewhere to live after arriving?  If it makes a difference, we're aiming for Birstall, but general timelines are helpful too :)

It took us less than a week, but not sure if that's standard.  A friend found a furnished flat and was able to move in the same day, through Foxtons.  They may be evil, but they work fast.

i moved into my flat within a week of finding it.

we viewed the house we're living in now about 3 days after we started looking for houses, signed the rental agreement about 10 days later, and moved in 3 weeks after signing the lease because we had to wait for the previous tenants to move out.   However, if the house had been empty we would have been able to move in immediately.
Now a triple citizen!

Yup, depends on if someone is living there.  I looked at my house I think on a Thursday and I moved in the next day.   I moved into my house before I even signed the lease!
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

It took us about two weeks even though the flat was empty.  DH had a low paying job and I didn't have a job yet so we needed his parents as a guarantor.  Our estate agent moved very slowly through checking our references and the guarantor paperwork.
