NHS - Central Scotland

After reading Dar's post about not being able to register and see a GP it has me a bit concerned.

DH already has an NI number. We're relocating just outside of Stirling where he grew up. He is an Irish National and I'm a US Citizen. I will be on an EEA Family Permit.

What issues will I be faced with the NHS/GP's in Scotland?  What do I need to do to prepare for a visit to the GP? What's your experience in Scotland?

Is there anything I need to know? I plan to have all my medical records with me when I arrive, am I on the right path to proper healthcare?

All my husband had to do was take his passport and fill out a form.  This was in a small Highland town so I don't envisage you having any problems in a similar environment.

My husband has now been registered with 2 doctors.  The first was Edinburgh City Centre where he did the same as hatsumomo's husband.  The second in a small town outside Glasgow where he didn't have to do anything except show ID.

I just walked in and registered.  No problem, no hassle.  Hope all goes well for you

I can honestly say I've never had a problem, either in Edinburgh - where we registered at two surgeries as we moved - and here in a rural area of Western Scotland.

At one very large surgery in Edinburgh we did have to bring in our tenancy agreement and council tax book to prove we lived in the area.

I've not had any problems registering either.. My first GP was up in Aberdeen . . just walked in and registered. Then when i moved down here to Fife.. both surgeries i've had have never asked for anything.. just my address ..
Guess everywhere is different.

No real issues here either (Glasgow). 1st GP was straightforward while a student. When I moved we tried for another GP but they all said they were 'full' or 'only taking children and pregnant ladies' which I all found odd as they were regular GPs on the GP register.

We eventually found one and I signed up no problem. They never asked to se any documents but I already had a NIN. Have visited them 2x now no issues.

(Note NHS Glasgow & Clyde does like loosing referal letters for my fiancee in their system though) Her niece had a head bump once up near Stirling, she is German, and they took her to Stirling Hospital. In and out no issues and great service.

No problems here either (Linlithgow... not that far from you if you're near Stirling.) 
I've also been registered in at least 3 different practices in Glasgow, nae bother.

(Note NHS Glasgow & Clyde does like loosing referal letters for my fiancee in their system though) Her niece had a head bump once up near Stirling, she is German, and they took her to Stirling Hospital. In and out no issues and great service.

Don't get me started on how jacked up NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde are.

But I will give you this word of warning:  don't go to Inverclyde Hospital unless you like to play Russian roulette with your life and sanity.

I wouldn't take a sick houseplant there.
