Corned Beef

In the new Bon Appetit there is a recipe to make your own Corned Beef. It needs to brine for 8 days and I'm going to start it on Wednesday.
Has anyone done it before?

If I didn't finally find them, I was planning to start pickling my own cucumbers. Corned Beef seems downright normal by comparison. :)
