Twisting Muscle from Toe to Knee
« on: March 12, 2008, 12:35:27 AM »
My muscle has been doing something weird lately that seems to be happening more often and getting worse. I just was laying down and moved my food, and my "pointer" toe (I don't know what else to call it, the one right next to the big toe) twisted. It got stuck next to my big toe and I couldn't move my foot without really bad pain. There was a huge gap between it an my middle toe, if I tried to move the pointer toe closer to my middle toe with my hand, it would just bounce right back. The pain then started moving up my leg and into my knee. My foot is ok now, but still sore from the toe to the knee. The twisting felt like it was running up the outside of my leg.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what it could be?

It almost sounds like a charlie horse (sorry I don't know if it has a real name, just what we've always called it when the muscle in your calf locks up and hurts like heck). My foot will every once in a while bend funny and it takes a bit for it to go back to normal, but it's always followed by a terrible charlie horse in my calf. It's usually sore for about a day after. I wonder if it's a muscle spasm or something along those lines causing the muscle to contract.  :-\\\\

Just sounds like bad cramps or like Tristessa said 'charlie horse'. I get them quite often and have since I was a teenager. Sometimes I'll get them at night and they travel from my toe totally up my leg. Other times I get them if I've been walking in heels all day. Very painful. They say potassium helps so eat some bananas or get yourself some good multi vitamins.

My toe sometimes does that! I just wants to go the wrong way, and won't cooperate with the other toes! Hurts like HECK, too! Usually getting up and walking helps it to work itself out. Well, more like limping, but you get the idea. ;D

I used to get charlie horses alot an they hurt something awful an my mom said it was because I wasn't drinking enough water. I don't know if it is true or not but I always make sure I have drank at least 1/2 -3/4 of the recommended daily water intake an I haven't had a charlie horse in long time. when I worked back home I would get them every so often I was told I was drinking to much caffeine as well. so I cut back on my caffeine an I rarely got charlie horses after that. who knows maybe it was just me I don't know. I rarely drink caffeine these days an I drink almost 2 liters of water a day I haven't had one in a really long time.

My dad got them for years and the doctor told him to cut down on the sodium and increase hyderation. I usually get them when I've been eating crap for a week.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

I don't really drink soda and I drink water like crazy, so it's not that...might be the potassium or sodium though. I have been eating like crap this week (been the week from hell for so many reasons and I just can't be bothered to eat better), so that could very well be it.  :( I'm glad it's not just me though!

So it looks like my mom was right thanks for the info. I know when we were back in the States last Nov Dh & I ate out alot we also ate bunch of junk food. that explains why I had a charlie horse in my right calf while we were home man did it hurt.

Definitely cramp.

And it could well be partly due to a lack of sodium, not an excess.

As a coach I've dealt with girls getting those sorts of cramps quite often - we encourage the kids to eat bananas as that does seem to help (potassium) as well as hydrate much more with a mix of sports drink & water (half and half).
