The kind of anaesthetic needed seems to depend on which wisdom teeth are involved. I had an upper wisdom tooth extracted last year. Having had both my lower ones out previously, I was terrified, since those had been extremely frightening experiences. (I had them done in the States, with only Novocaine as anaesthetic.) This last one was completely different. The whole procedure took approximately 10 seconds, was done with only a Novocaine injection, and involved almost no pain afterwards. According to my dentist, uppers are completely different to lowers, as they are not so deeply embedded in bone. She only had to push it out with her finger.
