In the states we eat alot of chinease, mexican, and italian food....you can find other stuff from just about every country... In small towns though the three I mentioned will always be readily available.
What are some of the favs of the UK...so I might know what to make when friends come over...and Ideas for nice dishes?

Lots of Indian. Chinese and Thai. Some Italian. For fast food, a decent kebab shop.

You know what's getting kind of hard to find? Traditional British food. Seems like all the fish and chips I had in London were in Chinese takeaways.

Traditional British food.

Lots of traditional pubs up here & particularly up in the Yorkshire Dales where you can find great traditional British food - roasts, bangers & mash, meat pies, toad in hole, etc.   I'm hungry now!

Plenty chippys around my way.

It's easy to find fish and chip shops here on the seaside.

Around here, one of the bigger ethnic food things is Greek because of the very large community here.

Also, a growing one is Polish food. (yummy!)
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.
