When considering banks to go with, check and see if there'll be a branch near where you'll live / work etc.

If you're with a bank, but there're no branches nearby its not that practical. Personally, I don't have any dealings with our bank, except when I initially opened my account & we got our mortgage.
Personally, I'm with HSBC and I'm happy with it. We have both Plus and normal accounts with them, as well as our mortgage.

HSBC now have pay-in machines (separate machines for deposits & separate machines for withdrawls) in branches, so if I have any cash or cheques I just use them.
