I agree on the fact that it will be much harder to find an automatic in that range.  Really though, if you are comfortable with a manual already, it shouldn't be much of a problem.  I was worried about that too, but found that getting used to shifting with my left hand was so much easier than I thought it would be.

It's the narrow roads that took more getting used to. :)  You'll be okay, whichever way you go, but if you are comfortable with a manual in the states.  You will adjust fine to driving a manual here.

Love - love - love my Micra.

Paid just over £3000 for it in 2005, when it was 5 years old with about 24,000 miles on it. It has been completely, utterly reliable, and gets around 40 mpg. Found it in the local paper, bought it from a little old lady who was selling it to buy a new Micra, which she said she did every 5 years.

It's a manual --  you'd be surprised how quickly you get used to shifting with the left hand. And most cars here are stick shifts.

Micras seem to be very popular with my friends here in Scotland who need reliable transport, good mileage, and don't know much about fixing cars. My boyfriend just did the brakes for me and said it was an incredibly easy job.

Thanks guys. Even though I wanted a Micra, I was coerced into a Honda Civic that was apparently too good of a deal to pass up. The mpg is only so-so, but at least it's an automatic.

Just not into the manual car thing, my first car was one, and that's what I first learned to drive in. However, I got an automatic the first chance I got.

Maybe in a couple of years, I look into getting a Micra.

Has anyone heard of this car? It is called a PEEL and it was made in the Isle of Man and was very economical.
