Yep - like my father did for my wedding.  He spent a total of 10 days in the UK - and he planned it so my wedding was on his last full day and he left BEFORE the official photos were taken as he had to get up early for his flight back.  Didn't see him but for about 20 minutes in total, and he's in ONE post-ceremony picture taken by his wife - with my sons and my brother, not even with me.

Not sure why I even bothered asking him to come, really.   ::)
My Dad didn't even *respond* to being invited to my UK wedding.  ::) ::)

I was just telling my fiance how nice it is to read people's comments on here. I am feeling a bit down cause it doesn't seem like my best friend/best man will make it. 3 of my other friends have already copped out...for monetary reasons. My brothers are attempting to show up... but they are family men...and quite busy at work too.
We get married in 3 months roughly, I sure hope they can show up. Everyone is lookig for help from us to book cheaper tickets, get cottages or hotels..etc etc..but we both have our own stuff going on as well. Lucy is trying to do the wedding stuff...I am moving and getting that squared away. I don't really have time to be putting a lot of effort into ensuring other people have themselves squared away.
I am beginning to realize I might be the Lone Ranger at my wedding...but I won't be alone...TONTO (Lucy) will be there too and that is all that matters. ;D

Hope it does work out that some folks are able to come over for your wedding.  Even if they can't it seems you've got a good attitude about what's really the most important thing about that day.

We were actually really lucky. We got married in NC in Sept. 06, and DH's parent's and two brothers came over. One of his brothers' girlfriends was also in NJ on business and made the effort to take a few extra days to attend the wedding (I hadn't even met her yet; it was really nice). His aunt and uncle and cousin and her husband also came over (whom I also had not met). They had never even thought of coming to NC, but now, almost two years later, they still talk about what a fantastic time they had in the mountains the week before the wedding and how lovely the wedding was. I was a little disappointed that two of DH's oldest friends copped out kind of late in the game, but I count myself lucky that so many of his family did attend.

Awwwwe! I was a Lone Ranger at my wedding. It was a small wedding anyways but I only had one guest--a friend of mine i met when i came to England.  Its a good thing we didn't have the brides guests sit on one side and grooms on another.. hah.  That would have been depressing.  But, it was still the best day of my life   ;D

Lone Rangers unite!  :)

I'm not sure. What to say as far as advice, I'm in a similar boat.

Long story short, I'm US, he's UK. I moved here just over a month ago. Yesterday we registered for our wedding. Since I'm on a Fiancee Visa I only have 6 months and would like to work asap so our legal wedding will be next month. I am planning to do a full wedding, bridesmaids, groomsmen, reception, next year and gave my family notice of over a year, even though it will only be a blessing in the end. My issue is I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Originally we were like the first one, legal one, we'll get done and not think of it as so serious and live like we're just engaged but it's not that simple. To his family it's their eldest son getting married, and it is legal, and we will be married. I wouldn't want to not count that time, kwim? It is a real wedding...I'll be a Lone Ranger as well lol. Everything seems to be going so quickly.

My family, sister and mom, are already giving me grief about coming, and it's a year away. Originally I said I'd like to do a small ceremony here, then in the US, but that'd be three weddings, and I'm not for it. Plus after thinking, I want my close family and friends here, it's my(our)day and it should be how we want it and I want my family here. I want them to see my home, the country I'm living in, and meet my other side of the family.

a few close friends said they'd come, but I'm worried about them backing out :(  it is expensive...

Sigh.
