Rental headaches
« on: March 28, 2008, 02:35:37 AM »
My husband has been in London since January.  Due to long work hours he's been finding it difficult to make appointments to see rentals.  Lately we've seen places on line only to be told they were already under contract.  We are looking at Richmond and Chiswick, reasonable commutes for work.  How difficult would it be for us to rent furniture for the 18 months we'll be in London?  Any recommendations for companies that do this?  TIA-Theresa

Many places come already furnished, but a quick search on google brings up a lot of furniture rental places. I've never used one so no recommendations.

The market can move rather quickly for the area you are looking at plus the agencies are not good about keeping sites up to date. It may be worth his while to simply take a day or two off and just go looking. Good luck!

Not sure if you'd want our place, but it'll be available after the 18th.  2 bedroom end of terrace house, large garden, parking, garage.  Quiet road.  It has all the white goods, and the owner did offer to furnish it for us.. so you could ask. We pay 370/week, not including utilities.  It's not advertised yet, agents are coming this week.

I mention this as we're in Chiswick, really close to Kew Bridge.  I could hit Richmond with a rock.

Them's not yen.  It seemed extortionate after Tokyo, for sure, but it's not a bad rent for the area.

It's definitely a decent rent.  In areas near there we've seen even one beds that are higher.

Oh, did I mention that I have loads of furniture to give away?  Not gorgeous stuff, but clean enough and functional.  I really wouldn't go the rental route.  Between freecycle and IKEA you should do fine.
