BBQ's - does anyone know if the gas tanks have the same connection?

We're getting ready to ship everything (we're moving from California to Marlow) and wondered if anyone had shipped their gas BBQ across and if the gas tank connections are the same in the UK? Obviously we're not shipping our gas tank but wanted to ship the BBQ.

I think they probably are the same, why not email Calor (they are the bottled gas people) and ask.

You can get gas BBQ's here too, but Webers are much more expensive.

I'd heard somewhere that they are not the same.  I believe the UK ones are smaller than US ones.  But there are adapter kits available at B&Q.

The connections are not the same but you can get an adapter here so you shouldn't have a problem.

I believe it is the same.  Buy your gas from a camping or fishing equipment shop tho (blue canister) because garden centres specific BBQ gas bottles are nearly twice as expensive! 

What about bringing over an empty tank?  I guess filling it up would need an adaptor, though. 

I am not sure about bringing a tank over..I would have thought it a bit Risky ??

I brought over a few (used, old) empty kerosene tanks, empty new propane tanks shouldn't be a problem.. although I'd double-check with the shipping company. 

Some of the canisters (where you just screw them into a case and it pierces the top for a connection) are interchangeable, but the LP gas bottles have different fittings.   Depending upon the type of connection you would need either an adapter or simply connect the hose to a British regulator and fitting.   

Note that the connections on butane and propane cylinders here are also different froim each other, and different pressures are used so there are two different regulators.
