Also, you can puree up some raw shrimp in a blender and then smear it on someone's exhaust. It smells very distinctive and the smell permeates for about a week.

That is truly evil.

I LOVE IT!

Shrimp heads and hulls make an excelled shrimp stock.

Reminds me of something I read about an ill-tempered breakup....still having the house key she came in whilst he was out....unscrewed the end of the curtain pole and put some prawns in there! After a while there's quite a stink that takes some tracking down!

Actually, you can also dribble shrimp juice on a car's floorboards in the height of summer. The smell will never ever come out.

I'm really not an evil biatch entirely. I'm just from Mobile, AL and my teacher mother literally taught in Bayou la Batre. Often the shrimpers would send gifts (gallons and gallons and gallons) of shrimp to their childrens' teachers as gifts.

My mother is too allergic to peel shrimp but she can eat them. That's convenient, ain't it? I have spent a good chunk of my youth smelling like shrimp heads. Niiiiice.

Yeah, years ago there was a story floating around about a disgruntled woman splitting from her significant other and her sewing shrimp hulls in the hem of the man's curtains. He could never locate the smell and gutted his house. (Personally, I think the latter part isn't untrue.)

That's waaaay too convenient! :D

My mama's people are from Mobile - I have lots of fond childhood memories of Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island. :)  And shrimp, of course!  Though I can deal with shrimp heads much better than crawfish heads....

*drools over the idea of gifts consisting of gallon buckets of shrimp*

Probably a dumb question, but has anyone found it easy to buy steamed shrimp?  I find it impossible to get prawns any way other than deep fried in batter, even at the seaside.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

I have found boiled/steamed shrimp (we live in a seaside town) but only chilled - never properly hot out of the vat.  :-\\\\  They're easy to do yourself, though!

Sorry, I know you said steamed, but do you mean boiled? Boiling shrimp takes about 4 - 5 minutes. When they turn nice and pink they're done.

I made the best meal of my marriage last week.  It was garlic clams and shrimp with mushrooms and spinach served over pasta.

I only sort of followed a recipe so I will probably never be able to dupilcate.
