Found: root beer at ASDA
« on: April 14, 2008, 12:14:18 AM »
sorry dont know if anyone posted yet, but I was in my local ASDA today and noticed a new product for £1.00! 6-Pack of ROOT BEER! :) I bought it and was dead chuffed. It's a generic brand with a big US flag on it (think its Carlton's or something like that). It tasted ok but had a weird aftertaste, but then I noticed it had sweetners and was only 60 calories a can...so it is a GREAT diet root beer...so if that's your thing, check out if ASDA has it now! My british friends thought it was like dandelion and burdock, so we bought some of it too and had a taste-test and its really nothing like it lol. good stuff though! not as good as A&W or Barqs, but it's good diet stuff!

You can also buy cans of A&W on ebay.co.uk for extortionate prices.  If you're desperate.   ;)  You can also buy it for a more affordable price from Cybercandy.co.uk or Skyco.co.uk.  I believe you get the reduced rates form Skyco if you're a chartered member of the forum.   :-\\\\

If you're in London, shops in the Chinatown area have A&W for about 75p/can. The last time this topic came up I bought some and it's still in my fridge.  :-\\\\

I'd imagine that checking a Chinese grocer in any part of the UK may be worth it?

Not months... years!  :)

And as you're in Glasgow, Jdawg, dont forget that Lupe Pintos sell A&W, and sometimes Barqs root beer.

It really depends on where you are. I know some (like Genau) have been able to find Root Beer for ages but I have never seen it in anything other than the import shop in Belfast, sadly. And I have not yet found it down here.

If you're in Glasgow there's an A&W "restaurant"  well there used to be about 2 years ago anyway. It's shared with a KFC and they have frosty glasses of rootbeer and you can get rootbeer floats and get chili cheese dogs.

I hope it hasn't closed... I love going there when I'm in Glasgow.

I've always been able to find it in ASDA here in Wales.

IMO Carters = yuck.  I miss Barq's and Mug.

Might be okay for floats though - good thought, I haven't had one in years!
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

lol I guess I never noticed it until ASDA set up the display.

I found a place two days ago that sells Mountain Dew and A&W root beer in Glasgow thats a bit cheaper than Lupe Pinto's. It's Lim's Chinese market which is up Cambridge Street at Sauchiehall Street (up the street where the vodaphone shop lies at the bottom). It's 79p a can, a bit cheaper than Pinto's £1.10 and they have Mountain Dew too :). And after having my A&W, it's nothing like Carter's which is rubbish in comparison. Makes good floats but that's about it...the real stuff isn't too dear after all though! I didn't know they have Barq's at Lupe Pinto's sometimes, I might have to try it again soon :D

And I miss the A&W restaurant in Glasgow so much...sigh...
