Hold on others are feeling the pinch too.

I found this interesting read in the Daily Telegraph about the plight of the middle class in Britain.

None of that article makes sense.

It's like the reporter started writing one. Got called away for tea then came back and started writing a different one. And he must have gotten called away for tea like five times.

So are the people in Liverpool richer or not? Are they just more in debt? And that "crippling mortgage" they're suffering under -- unless the real-estate market's different there than anywhere else, they're not purchasing a mansion. Yeah, their real-estate agent probably told them the property was "desirable" but it's as likely as not they purchased it cause it was the most affordable!

Seriously, that families making £100,000 a year and don't even waste money on "luxuries" still struggle under the weight of their bills is about the saddest commentary on the price of living in England I've read in a while.

Oh and hark at the lowly £15,000-making schlubs for daring to want to own a house. Who do they think they are?
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

Nothing in the world could make me read a Daily Telegraph article.

I agree, it does read as though they grabbed a random reader of the Telegraph and had them write the article, not a seasoned journalist.  It seemed like the article was all over the place.

Not sure what it's like up in Liverpool.  I'm sure in general house prices must be cheaper than London or the Home Counties.  But are there an abundance of jobs or a good economy?  Or are the salaries that much lower and the houses just as difficult to buy?

I guess Liverpudlians are on the right track if they're saving more than most.
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround

From what I remember about the article is that homes are far more reasonable, work is available and likely to be so and there is a building boom going on. Another point being made is that they are not as much in debt as their cousins in the London area.

Liverpool - aka the Compton of England?  Everytime my brother and I see a nice car being driven in Liverpool, we comment that it must belong to either a footballer or a drug dealer.

The city has improved quite a bit from the 80s(when I grew up there).  However, I am not sure that there is an abundance of jobs OR if it's more economical to live there (other than the fact that the house prices are cheap as dirt when compared to London).  A nice 4 bedroom house in a posh area will go for 600K.  In London, it would cost around 900K.  As a result, Londoners have to go into more debt to buy a property (considering that if we knock off the bankers and oligarchs, the average salary in London comes WAY down).

I grew up a mile from Anfield. My mom lives near Menlove Avenue now.
