Camera recommendation
« on: May 11, 2008, 09:32:15 AM »
I'm just wondering if anyone has a good camera that they could recommend because I need a new one before I go on holiday at the end of June.  I want something that gives good picture quality and is fairly small and easily fits in my handbag with a big viewing screen and optical zoom.  Maximum we're looking to spend is about £100 but the cheaper the better.  I want to start project 365 but the camera I have now is too bulky to carry around all the time.  I'd appreciate any help you all could offer.  :)

I got a good deal from Jessops on a Fuji Finepix camera...8 megapixles, Zoom and a large screen, easy to use menu's.  My pictures always come out fab.  My fiance is into photography and has expensive cameras but he always likes using mine for the convenience that it is compact and takes really good piccys.  I think I paid £124 but it did come with a memory card, camera case, rechargeable batteries and battery recharger.  this was nearly a year ago now..but I have seen the same camera recently for sale in Tesco for £99.  I don't think you get the batteries or battery recharger with it tho.

The Canon Powershots are really nice, and fairly cheap camera. I have the A620, but I know they have come out with a few newer versions.
You can check out a few photos of taken with it here:

Even though now I usually use my Nikon DSLR, I still grab this camera to take snapshots because it's still a great camera.

We've got a Fuji F40 FD.  8.3 Megapixels.  I bought it from Amazon.co.uk for about the same price its listed at currently (just under £100) a couple months back.

If you want something with a quicker shutter some Kodak cameras'll give you that.   ;)

I'm a photographer by trade and I'll third the Fujis.  Their F series F30 especially are brilliant little things. I think they might have stopped making the f30, but are still available on Amazon for £150ish.

A good place for reviews is DPreviews.com
