Well I guess that would be me, but I have to admit probiotics were not my strongest area!

However, you get what you pay for pretty much.  The cheap stuff isn't as good as the mid-range and more expensive stuff.  Different strains go to and support different areas (stomach, small intestine, large intestine, etc.)

Are you taking it just for general gut health or to correct an imbablance?  Usually for correcting an imbalance (say, you've been on antibiotics and your good flora has been wiped out) I'd go for the stronger and most likely more expensive stuff.

Some probiotics are meant to be kept cold.  Some are stable at room temperature.  I always felt that the ones that must be kept cold were better, though many would disagree with me.

Sure, hope it helped a little.  Go for the best stuff you can afford.

No, they are certainly not all created equal!  My nutritionist recommended Biocare and I've been using their products ever since.  The one I prefer is

Don't buy a supplement with just acidophilus, you want at least both Lactobacillus acidophilus & Bifidobacterium bifidum.

I also buy from that company, they have good prices and quick shipping.  :)

thanks everyone-

another random question while we're on the subject of supplements.... do you'all take daily multi-vitamins?

There have been times when I have and times when I haven't taken a daily multi.

My best advice is to go with a good brand.  Take your multi with your most complete meal of the day (not toast and coffee!).  That way you will absorb most of the nutrients more fully.

The holistic doctor that out oldest saw also recommended Biocare.  I buy direct from them:

In the states I was a big fan of Kirkman.  In the UK you can purchase their products thru Nutri Centre
http://www.nutricentre.com/start/kirkman_index.aspx

ETA: I can't recommend on a certain type of acidophilus as all my research has been for our oldest daughter.  However, I can recommend the two companies listed above.   :)
