Wedding coming so quickly!!
« on: May 11, 2008, 04:55:23 PM »
eek, in two weeks I'll be married, and have almost nothing sorted! lol I have a reservation booked but besides that, no dress yet, no shoes, no hair sorted, starting to get a bit worried lol.

Just wanted to ask if anyone was in a similar position. I suppose we've slacked because we know we're having a wedding next year and we just got a new house so it's been fun but busy setting it up.

Also, is it nessisary to get wedding rings?! I am thinking to save costs if it's possible to not get one or only get a plain band for him and use my engagement ring for now until next year...a house costs so much!

Thanks! And any suggestions for hair and makeup in the Nottingham area is more than welcome!

If you want a dress thats off the rail..try British Home Stores (BHS) They have a wedding department and the dresses are quite cheap or monsoon.

We got our rings at Argos - I think they each cost less than 20 quid. We just wanted something to use in the ceremony with the intention of "upgrading" to fancier ones for our first landmark anniversary - maybe 5 or 10 years....

Coast has some really pretty dresses- http://www.coast-stores.co.uk

Shoes are pretty easy to sort, I just bought some cute ones from M&S.

If you're looking to save money, how about buying a corsage instead of a full bouquet (if you want flowers?)

Don't worry, it is super possible to sort out a wedding in 2 weeks- just got to think outside the box! ;)

One of the things that really surprised me when I got married was when our officiant told us that while it wasn't a requirement to give each other a ring per se, it was a requirement to give each other something (even if it had little to no value) as part of the legal requirements of being married in the state of New York. Not sure how it works over here, though.

Monsoon has wedding dresses, too.

My cousin got married a couple of weeks ago. He and his now-wife planned the whole thing in three weeks, including booking a venue. I know you only have two, but it's definitely do-able! Best of luck to you!  :)

Hey Steph!

For a registry wedding you don't have to exchange anything, I'm almost 100 percent sure.  It's nice to exchange something just for the symbolic act of it though.

Instead of rings my husband and I exchanged silver pendants that our friend had made for us.

Thanks for the links and help everyone! I should have a dress sorted by this coming weekend at the latest.  Going shopping Wednesday and going to go to all the stores I can. I very much appreciate the links. I have a favorite at Debenhams so hopefully that works out!

Sounds good about just trading something, though we'll have to figure out what. I'd like him to have a ring, lol I'm claiming him as mine that day hehehe ;) but after talking to him tonight we might just get him a ring and me use my engagement ring for now until next year.

On the positive side I have a resturant booked for us :)

Thanks again

I haven't got anything to add, but just to say, not to worry, as what will need to get done, will get done. Anything else is not important and won't be remebered in the bigger scheme of things!

We had only had a few weeks between announcement and wedding, so it's possible!

Congratulations and good luck!

We planned ours in about 4 weeks... but my MIL was a big help.... especially since the wedding was about an hour from our house and 10 mins from hers. So dont be afraid to ask for help.  I got DH a wedding band and since he'd just bought me an engagement ring which was expensive.. i used a different ring that he gave me earlier in our relationship which meant alot to me... and on our 1 year wedding anniversary he got me a proper band.

Flowers, I made my own bouquet.  It took a few practice runs but i think i did a pretty good job if i do say so myself!  I got some ribbons and fabric to wrap around from the fabric store (Hobbycraft).

Best of luck with the planning.  As for hair, I would try to book someplace soon.. ask around who has a good reputation... and then buy a few bridal magazines and pick out a style you like.   :)

I am totally getting there!
I'm no longer single this Saturday, and getting quite excited!!!

Thank you for all your help and replies!

I got my dress, shoes, and hair style picked out. I booked a resturant for this Saturday. I am working on flowers, a small bouquet for me and an arrangement or two for the reception table that will be similar. I can hopefully go tomorrow.I am going to get a haircut tomorrow,  and I started looking for venues next summer for our blessing.
Hubby will be picking out a hotel and place for dinner for our wedding night!!

We are also on the right track for what we want in music, and not sure if we're doing vows until next year...not sure.

He's got a ring and it's being resized and he's giving me my engagement ring for a wedding one for now, I have a diamond solitare he gave me for a promise ring that can pass for my engagement ring.

He's got his suit, shoes, tie and shirt too.

I think I'll end up doing my own hair at this point though. It's just too short of notice to get someone proper to do it :(
It shouldn't be too bad though, with my sister in laws help.

Am I missing anything ? lol
