Sorry I've been having issues with my internet, so didn't reply before now. Thanks to all who have replied and given advice. Last night I found a deal on Expedia for an Air Canada flight from London to here. I don't have any experience with the airline, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. It was 470 GBP when all the other flights I could find were 600 and up. I'm afraid they are just going to keep going up at this point.

I use NWA/KLM for the majority of my travel but have to go with whichever airline that can bring in the best price, and this time they didn't.

Funny thing though, most search engines didn't even search the Air Canada site. Even Expedia.co.uk didn't find the flight I booked with Expedia.com. Strange.. but I'm just happy I finally found a better price.  :D

I will still be searching as always, so will pass along any sales I may find!  :)

I have flown Air Canada before and have found them pretty good - I am used to super budget, so maybe my expectations are low. I don't use them often, due to cost!

However, I have found the flight crew to be exceptional, as usually, I am a bad traveller due to my sensitive stomach. Other airlines have also been good in this regard.

sorry  :( where are you traveling to?

LHR to SFO... I've found a United direct for about £480 or so. I don't think i'll do any better than that.  The flights with stops are only about £100 less... and as i'm travelling with my two kids, i'd rather pay a bit extra if I can to avoid the layover and the suffering they'd go thru.. (visions of having to wake them up during a flight to get off the plane  :-X)

Last year in Fall, I travelled on Virgin direct for £435.  So i'm not out of the ballpark - however, to fly Virgin again would be £800.... Well at this point - unless they come up with a fab sale...just not sure in this economy if that's anything to hope for or plan on.

I did that last year with Air Canada.

The only problem was a long LONG layover in Toronto at the world's most boring airport.

It had two shops in the international section and a Starbucks, not even any video games.

SNORE!

I know its bad, we are looking at moving back to the states and I am begininng to think its cheaper to buy a holiday package than just flights!  I will keep my eyes open for any sales though!

I find Zoom to be good value for money. I have to say, though, I now only fly direct wherever I want to go. I've had too many problems with layovers and delays and now direct flights are all that I can cope with.

Yes Air Canada does have a pretty lengthy layover on the flight in, so that's not good that the airport is so limited for things to do or see. But it's a good deal and I'm just very happy to know I'll see my bf sometime soon! Nosey me, went on Expedia today and just checked to see what deals I could find after the fact. Oh my.. the exact flight we found yesterday has doubled in price in just one day!  :o I guess it was my lucky day yesterday. So happy we got it before it went up.  [smiley=smitten.gif]

Lots of airlines put up their prices on Tues - BA had a big warning. Unfortunately, I couldn't book as I had to wait for the EX to agree to dates.... which he didn't so my airfares have gone up £300  ::)

In the news today.
United is cancelling flights because of the price of fuel. Related, is the number of people they are laying off. This is the second airline that I know of who is doing this.

I know I am just so happy we found that.. yay yay yay!  :D

Stephanie sorry you weren't so lucky, hopefully there will be some drops in price and summer sales again before too long.

Jim, I heard that too about United. The part that got me is when they reported their two top executives were going to forego pay for the rest of the year! Wow, but then imagine what their salaries must be if they are able to go six months unpaid.  ???

SS do you have a partner that lives in the UK?

I was looking for flights back home around Thanksgiving time and its over $2,200 for two people!   :o  That's summer prices.

We won't be going for a visit if it stays that price :(

Sillysrint,
Continental has followed the other airlines and cancelled some routes and mothballed aircraft.
