Cost of shipping

For those of you who took a considerable amount of furniture, clothes etc...to the U.K, how much did it cost, and how long did it take to arrive?  I feel like such a goof for asking a million and one questions about moving, but I just need to know what to expect.  I'm so glad for this board being here, I don't know what I'd do without it!!!! 

From your post in the other thread you mentioned that your husband would have a job all sorted.  Is it possible for them to pay for shipping your stuff to the UK?

I am moving from New Jersey to London in 2 weeks time, but luckily my company is paying for the move, so I don't know how much it would cost me if I had to do it on my own.  The moving company told me that my air shipment will take about a week or so to arrive and the other shipment by ship will take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks.

I paid about $4,000 to ship some furniture and more than 50 boxes.  The amount was about 500 cubic feet. 

I brought my grandparents' coffee table and kitchen table and chairs, my parents' bedroom dresser and chest of drawers, dishes, pots and pans, and way too many books.  Start the garage sales now and keep having them.  If it is irreplaceable or of sentimental value, bring it.  I would have paid any amount to be able to sit at my grandparents' table in my new home.
