Dance Dance Revolution - Playstation
« on: July 15, 2008, 10:58:06 PM »
Hi All,

I've lived in the UK for 2 years now but when I was back in the USA, I loved to exercise on the Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) with Playstation 2.

My hubby wants to get a Playstation 3 but we will get a 60 GB version so that you can play PS2 games so I can play DDR as they don't yet have a PS3 DDR game.  The only problem I cannot find dance mats for DDR in the UK for PS3.  You can get a converter for the PS2 dance mats but I've read on some PS forums that there is a delay, which is terrible when you're playing a game like DDR.  I have found some for PS3 on the net but it's only sold in the USA and don't seem to ship to the UK.

Does anyone have this problem or any suggestions?  Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Thanks everyone!

I'd be a bit leery of playing PS2 DDR games on the PS3, to be honest. Although the mat says it's PS3 compatible, it doesn't say that it'll work with PS2 games. It's not something I'd assume without further research. I also don't think there are any PS3 DDR games out?

My wife is also into DDR, and we ended up just getting it for the xbox360. In general, I'd recommend the PS3 as a better system, but you'll probably have a better DDR experience on the 360. If your husband is set on a PS3, you may end up having better luck picking up a used PS2? They're probably dirt cheap, by now, and you'll get something that you know works. The PS2 still has the most number of DDR games out, and arguably some of the best, since that was the platform around at the peak of the DDR craze.

Hi ucbmckee,

You are right.  As far as I know, there are no PS3 DDR games out yet.  There is speculation that they will come out with some but I have no idea when of if this will happen.

We were hoping to get a PS3 because it has a Blu-Ray player and hard drive so it's several machines rolled into 1.  My hubby loves the FIFA games/footy games you can get as well.  The PS3 60GB, which is only available 2nd hand is able to play PS2 games as well.  The only factor is finding a DDR dance mat that is compatible and does not have a delay (due to having a plug converter).

I suggested buying a PS2 for gaming but we would then also want to get a Blu-ray player.  We don't have a DVD player, Hard drive, or anything yet.  We just recently bought our first TV and it's a good one-- HD-ready Panasonic, LCD, etc.  So we want to use it to it's full potential!!!

After quite a bit of research the PS3 seems like the best option for us.  However, I do like the Wii because it has so many interactive games and is much more fun when you have friends over.  In addition, I grew up with the old-style Nintendo and SuperNintendo and love the traditional games like DonkeyKong and Super Mario Brothers, etc.  So I'm really not sure what we'll end up with.

I'm guessing you can't get Mario/DonkeyKong on Playstation?

You wont get any Nintendo specific made games on anything but Nintendo.  Therefore no Mario/Donkey Kong/Zelda etc.
