My husband and I have tentative plans to repatriate in a few years.

The only concern we have is that he has MS and I don't find anything with a list of medical conditions that disqualifies you from obtaining a VISA, other than HIV.

He is registered disabled here and takes regular medication, but that is all.

Anybody know if there are any disqualifying conditions?

Thanks.

They do not discriminate against you if you are disabled, however they do not really need to as the medical insurance for disability/preexisting conditions seems to be almost impossible to find, we looked into it and I am a USC and disabled I would rather to some degree prefer to be here due to the NHS and the fact I get medical treatment, but I do miss my family and friends but now I have my ILR we will be traveling back at some point to for a holiday. This however seems easier as we have had a quote for holiday health care cover.

Indy
I hope we get better weather with the new year I am getting rained out.

Good luck to everyone with respective visa applications.

Have you checked Dive Into America?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Wow,that's horrible! I wonder why they won't?  HIV/AIDS can be much more managable in the states due to the latest drug cocktails that are available in the states only.  Unfortunately you need $$$$$$$$ to be able to afford them, but that doesn't seem fair to not let you in just because you have HIV/AIDS.  HIV can be well controlled for years and years.

I wouldn't imagine them not letting you come in for MS. It is very managable. Unless he has no way of paying for anything himself. The US has thousands of immigrants from all over that come in every year with a multitude of disabilities and diseases. There is alot of private funding you and your husband could apply for through grants to help you. I will look it today and see what I can do to help. I have worked in the medical field for about 13+ years and have more than a ew people I can ask about this. You shouldn't have a problem.

As for the AIDS/HIV thing.....that is a call by the Center for Disease Control. That is their answer on slowing the spread. For every 2-5 people who would come over and get the right medical treatment there are presumably hundreds more that wouldn't.
There are countries in Africa that 1:3 men are infected and 1:5 women, this puts a limit on an overflow of refugees coming in and putting a further stain on the already overloaded system. With regards to AIDS/HIV.

The tests done are for HIV, syphilis and TB - they are only worried about communicable diseases.

Syphilis? Can't you get rid of that with antibiotics?

Not sure about that but I know of one chap whose fiancée's K1 application was in limbo until she'd completed treatment for TB.

I think in the early stages, it's taken care of with Penicillin.  If someone has advanced syphilis, however, it's a totally different ball game.

Yeah, I guess once it settles into your joints, makes you blind, etc, its no longer just an infection, but a highly systemic disease.  Just thought you could still somehow be on long term doses of antibiotics and it would eventually be gone.

I read today that the US is looking to lift its ban on those with HIV from visiting or immigrating.  Very good!

i am not current up on US policy, but up until a few years ago,  HIV status did not prevent entry into the US, it just forced you to get an HIV Waiver.  This basically had to show that you had a treatment facility lined up and payment planned for (or donated) so that you would not enter and become a burden to the public system.  This system, as well as treatment of other communicable diseases such as TB, has been around for years and is very well regulated by CDC and DHS.  While cumbersome and time consuming for the one with the disease, it is done to prevent spread in the US.  The same policy applied to regular immigrants and refugees from all countries around the world.
