Mexican food in Lancashire?
« on: November 03, 2008, 01:08:11 AM »
Okay, I'm willing to go as far as Liverpool for some Mexican food, but can anyone tell me (preferably in or near Ormskirk) where I can find Mexican food?  Restaurants, grocery items, anything?  I'm dying for a chimchanga.

hehe.... I have no idea, but you just made me want a chimichanga, too!   ;)
If there are any, I doubt they have chimichangas, or if they did, they wouldn't be nearly as good.  You are far better off making them yourself!  It's really just a deep-fried burrito!  I might try that actually, just make some big burritos, pin them up with toothpicks, and deep-fry them.  mmmmm......
I don't even think I want to try any Mexican places anywhere in the UK for fear of overwhelming disappointment....

You can get Chimichangas in Las Iguanas (a 'Latin American' restaurant) - I had one there a couple of years ago, although I don't know how they compare to real Mexican ones (since it's the only one I've ever had).

Personally, I like Mexican restaurants here... but that could have something to do with the fact that I'm British and didn't have much to compare the food to until I lived in New Mexico for a while (and even so, I'll gladly eat in a UK Mexican restaurant since it's the closest I'll get to the real stuff for a while) :P.

Being from Texas, I can't imagine anything but disappointment from a UK Mexican restaurant... I wish I were like you and didn't know what true Tex-Mex was like...  :(
I miss speaking Spanish at work and the guys in the kitchen making flautas or fajitas for everyone when the restaurant was slow... *sigh*
Those kinds of experiences are the only ones I get homesick for...will have to make more of an effort to make my own Mexican cuisine...

I'm from Texas (Dallas) too! That's the biggest thing I miss - real Mexican food.

I live in Southport here and we have Chiquito's (on Ocean Plaza- they have a website) and Fuego's (in the town centre) which are probably the closest to Mexican that I know of near the Ormskirk area.

I literally cried into my burrito the first time we went to Chiquitos - I was so so so disappointed.  It was nothing like the Mexican I was craving. :(
Not MrsRichUK anymore!  :-)

Exactly why I wouldn't even try it.  I just know I would leave disappointed and I would rather not set myself up for it.   :(
