Durham Here We Come! Hotel Help!
« on: August 14, 2008, 02:40:37 PM »
Good News...My daughter got her A level results and has made the offer for Durham. Yea!!!

Bad News... We waited for the results to try to book a hotel to take her there...yup you guessed it they are all booked !!

Looking for an affordable hotel somewhat near Durham...preferrably on our way from Cheshire (A1). Need it 4th of October. Any suggestions?!?!

not any good with hotels, although a quick check shows hotels.co.uk has one at £56? :)

Just wanted to say CONGRATS!!!! What an excellent result, you must be so proud! :)

We stayed in a lovely B&B with a view of the cathedral when we were there - can't remember the name though.  But I suppose they would be booked up too if it's the same time that everyone else is taking their kids up as well?

Have you tried further out - like around Bishop Auckland & surrounds?  Not sure about hotels, but there's liable to be B&Bs around.

Maybe 'HME' will chime in...one of her sons just graduated Durham this year & so she might have some good ideas.

You could try Richmond, or what about Newcastle? Okay, it's a bit further north, but it doesn't take long to drive back to Durham and there'll be plenty of hotels. Alternatively, could you just drive up on the day? If she's at one of the Bailey colleges, there are special arrangements for parents to drive up through the town and drop off at set times. Feel free to pm me if you want any more help/or general tips on starting at Durham.

There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing

Thank you all for your suggestions. After some more looking and thinking we decided we will drive up on the Sunday Morning and get a room Sunday Night. Now I just hope boss will let me either take the Monday off or at least come in late ;-).

Thanks again everyone!
