I have an assessment for a job on Weds..it's from 1:45pm to 6pm. I was going to get an off peak travel card to get there from the local station - to Liverpool Street, then on the underground to Kings Cross. I know for an off peak you can't travel to or from Liverpool Street during peak times (on overground trains). But can you go on the underground during those times? It's peak until 6:35pm I think. So as long as I leave Liverpool Street after that will it be ok? Or can I not travel on the underground during peak times (between 4:30 - 6:35pm)? I haven't had an interview that late before so I just want to double check I get the right ticket.

Or would it be cheaper to get a cheap day return to Liverpool Street then worry about peak and off peak times for the underground when I get there?

When I have bought off peak train tickets from my station to London and back..I have never had a problem with the underground.  They only seem to say travel after 9am - but they never tell me not to travel at 5ish but they do tell me to avoid it because of the congestion of passengers.

The tube no longer has an evening peak time, so as long as you travel after 9.30am you can use it all day and all evening.

You can probably buy a traing ticket which has the journey to any zone 1 station included in the fare, and this should be the cheapest way, but you moight want to check with the ticket office guy.

Best to check with the train company. First Great Western won't let you board a train out of Paddington from 4.30 to 7pm.  ::)
