private healthcare in the UK?
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:24:33 AM »
does anyone here have any experience with it? what would be other reputable companies outside BUPA? is there any risk of being denied a claim if you forgot to mention you had a cold when you were 10 or does that only happen in the US ?cheers.

In general, pre-existing conditions aren't covered and neither are major, major issues.

So you can get a diagnosis of cancer, but you would be treated on the NHS for the cancer.

I think they can deny a claim, but it happens less frequently.

I used to work for WPA, a private health care company here - though less well known than BUPA.  As bookgrl says, pre-existing conditions are not covered so if you have a history of UTIs you won't be covered but if you just had one, it shouldn't be excluded.  WPA does cover cancer care and you did not have to have it done on the NHS though I haven't worked there for over a year and polices do change. What they don't cover is long term chronic care. I've posted about private health care a lot on this forum so search for my posts for more info or feel free to PM me.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I have had BUPA for 6 months now. We got a joint policy after a really bad car accident and finding NHS is useless (my wife is still waiting for MRI appointments!).

Anyway for BUPA we have full, top of the line best coverage on everything. 2 year moritorium on all xisting conditions they will not treat. Joint policy for me (26) and my wife (30) = £82/mo

lot cheaper than my old USA insurance. Have not needed to use the BUPA yet.

We have AXA through my husbands company.  It DOES cover pre-existing conditions, lucky for us. (This might not be true for all policy holders) We have all had to use it's services for one reason or another and it's been fantastic.

We have AXA as well through my company.  We haven't had to use it yet, but I believe it does cover pre-existing conditions (like Stacey mentioned).
