Shipping my Epson Printer..
« on: September 01, 2008, 09:54:05 PM »
The movers will be here on September 12th and I am curious if it would be best for me to remove the current ink cartridges from my printer before I box it up for the move?  I thought at first it wouldn't matter but now I am not sure sure I should leave them in there... What do you guys think?   :-\\\\

I don't think it will matter.  I've moved printers all around without ever removing the ink cartridges and I've never had an issue.

If you are going to send it airfreight, you could tape over the ink outlet nozzles, as otherwise you may have to clean a lot of leaked ink up when you unpack it, due to the low air pressure in the plane hold. In fact it might not hurt to do that anyway.

Oh I forgot about the pressure issue.  Are your cartidges the kind that once you take them off you can't use them, regardless of the amount of ink in them?  I thought my epson cartridges were like that (can't remember though, been a while since I had an epson) because it would leak everywhere once you removed them and tried to put it back on.

Everything is going by boat (and with the way the Atlantic is right now we may or may not get everything back in the end....)

Yeah the Epson pokes holes in them so once I take them off it will dry up, could take them out and try to tape over the holes.. But honestly after I wrote this post I was printing out some stuff and my black and Cyan both came up saying they were low.  I thought I had a lot more left as I just bought brand new for ever color before I applied for my Visa in July but I made so many copies/scans/doubles of everything I guess I used more than what I thought.

So looks like I'll probably just throw them away anyway...  As I will need to print out things before I go it'll probably be all used.  I'm just not buying more before I go that will be a waste.  If I need to print anything I'll just do it from work! lol   ;D

I would remove the cartridges for shipping by air or sea, even if it meant having to throw them away and start with new ones.   It's not worth the horrible mess you'll be left having to clean up if one did leak all over the inside of the printer.
