Taking cats from Gatwick to Newcastle
« on: November 13, 2008, 05:10:30 PM »
I will be moving to England from the US in mid December with a friend, and we are both taking our cats. We have done all the necessary work for getting into the UK, but I was wondering about getting a flight with them from London to Newcastle, and how much they charge for travel within the UK. If it's too expensive we will just get a train instead. I emailed BA but they just sent me a general enquiry link that was no help.

Thanks in advance

You might want to give BA a call instead. It could be like human ticket prices, could change all the time.

I don't know if moving cats is the same as moving a bird... but when I moved over in 2004 with my cockatiel, we flew BA from Atlanta to Edinburgh with a change in London. The price quoted by BA included all connecting flights to get my to my final destination, wherever in the UK that was.
Ok, so I'm smug.

Thanks, I think we'll end up just getting the train. It's a lot cheaper, although trying to get comfy with a huge cat crate each is going to be difficult!

Wow, I don't envy you - getting across London will be tough enough with the cat carriers nevermind the train journey to Newcastle. When I lived in the UK I used to take that train quite often (I lived in london but I'm from Newcastle originally) and I can't imagine doing it with cats (both in terms of space and meowing cats, just too stressful!) If flying isn't an option, is there no way you can drive? I know it's hard after a long trip but it might be worth looking into.

Sorry if I sound negative.  :-[ Maybe if you travel at a quiet time (tues, wed, thurs are best) and if you book extra seats for the cats it will be fine (try and get one of the tables with 4 seats so you can all be together). Good luck!
