Manchester

This is really rubbish of me, but I have never been to Manchester before - trips to Old Trafford and Maine Road for matches don't count - and I am now going next week for a hearing.

I'll arrive at about 5pm on Tuesday, and need some ideas of what to do in the evening.  Cool bars/pubs, decent restaurants, anything cool that a rock chick can do on her own which doesn't involved getting really hammered (court with a hangover is *not* fun!)

Or even...dare I say it...any UKYers around who want to show me the town?  I don't want to spend the evening in my travelodge watching crap TV!!!

I'm curious too as we'll be there in a week and a half's time!

Depends on how you define cool.  I have friends and can forward you some ideas, but you'd have to be a bit Goth to enjoy them.  Not really sure if that's your thing.

If you want to hang around the Airport, we'll be there from 4.30pm until our flight goes at 7.30pm  ;)

Tempting....but I think a Goth bar sounds a wee bit more fun.  Meeting you hanging around a Goth bar...now that would be perfect!

 ;D

Canal street can be fun. (Even if the gay bars are mostly filled with women who don't want to be hit on by skeezy straight guys.)

There are some cool dives in the north end (near the train station).

I had a great time just wandering around.

Food wise, there's a giant Chinese restaurant that is supposed to be incredible, but it was too expensive for the group I was with. I don't think I had a bad meal there, though.
Another shameless promotion for www.mclevey.com, the best place on the internet to buy art.
