I wanted to make a post about how our application process went because when I was looking for information all I could find was single students, not families. This site was so helpful though, I don't think we would have been able to get through all this with out Uk-yankee!
My husband was accepted into Queens University in Belfast in April.
Due to an error on the University's end we did not get our federal student loan paperwork until September 8th. His first day of school in on the 29th.
Sept. 9th, 2008: Applied for Visas online. My husband applied for a student visa, myself and our 3children applied for student dependents.
Sept. 12th: Biometrics
Sept. 13th: I read on here that it was taking 20 days to get student visas back! I was freaking out until someone mentioned that you can use a courier. I looked up LA couriers and found our angel at
http://www.globalvipservices.com/. I will be making a separate post about how wonderful she was. My best advice is to use one - so worth it!
This is what we included in our binder, we used a binder because with 5 people it was a lot of documents!

Yes, it was a LOT of paperwork but we didn't have a lot of funds so wanted to make sure they knew we were capable of living over there on our income.
Sept. 15th- Overnight our paperwork to Courier
Sept. 16th- Courier had us fax over something we had left out, fixed a few errors that we had made (wrongs dates etc).
Sept. 17th- Courier took it to Consulate
Jason received an email saying his had been approved. But myself or the children did not get an e-mail. Or any phone calls. Longest day of our lives.
Sept. 18th- Our courier called and said they had all been approved!
Whew!
